About the City of Floyd

Floyd is situated on what is known as the Blue Ridge Plateau, a 50 mile wide section of the Appalachian Mountains that stretches from our eastern county-line, west to Mt. Rogers. The steep rise, known as the Blue Ridge Front, was originally the escarpment that rose to a relatively flat plateau. The undulating, rolling nature of the land nowadays was formed over millennia by the many rivers and creeks throughout.

Besides the natural beauty of the land, you'll also find Floyd is a great place to experience the ‘slower pace' of small-town life. Residents are friendly and readily offer directions or just good conversation. As a stop along the Crooked Road, we take great pride in our local musicians and their homegrown music. You'll find them playing at many venues around the community and right on the sidewalks on weekends.

We're also proud of our talented artisans and crafters, whose beautiful wares can be seen in our many fine galleries, weekend community markets, and yearly studio tours. And speaking of markets, make time to visit with our local farmers (May - October) at the Pavilion Market. You'll find an amazing variety of exceptional quality products and produce.
