The Floyd Writer's Circle began in 2002 to provide feedback, support, critique, and shared resources to local authors. We consider writing to be an art form and have found that sharing individual perspectives is consistently helpful in the development of new work. Each of us brings their own unique voice and an independent form of review to the table. Through hard work, laughter, and much trial and error, we manage to find ways to fulfill our varied needs most of the time.

Our group of writers includes radio essayists, bloggers, a mixed media storyteller, a photojournalist, two political commentators, and several poets and memoirists. On any given Writer’s Circle night, we might be found working on an article, a press release, a poem, or a book chapter.

Sharing a common goal of furthering the expression of the spoken word in our community, our group performs original work at Floyd’s own Café del Sol. The spoken word evening happens every third Saturday and is open to anyone who would like to participate. We also helped establish the Poetree at Floydfest, a lively literary event at the festival since 2004. We welcome your interest, and we do keep a waiting list for prospective new members. But since it is necessary to keep an active group small in order to give everyone's voice a chance to be heard, we also offer our resources and experiences to anyone wishing to form a new group.
